Team squash: the C viewpoint

Kendal C team were at home this week hosting Carlisle C.

Having knocked Carlisle C team out of the Cumbria Cup- B Comp before Christmas, the C team might have had a chance in a repeat fixture. Ian Garnett got us off to a good start over Clem Coady. Completely in control from the set off and using the home court to his advantage taking the match 3-1.

Joel Howse looking to further Kendal C success in the number 4 spot up against Craig Jefferson. Joel started a little late in this one narrowly missing the second set to let Craig jump ahead to a 0-2 lead, Joel had to dig deep, clawing the match back to level it up at 2-2 and going into the decider but Joel couldn’t take it, runner out of time and going down 2-3.

Russell Lilliebridge up next, with Matt Bellm on the other side of the court at number 3. Russell not having much of an answer for the pace of the game, which is unusual. While losing the first and trying unsuccessfully to take the second. Starting the third with nothing left in the tank was never a good idea going down in three straight set. 0-3

Gary Major was in for a treat going up against the very experienced Di Parums. Being the first meeting between the two this game could have gone either way. It was however Di striking first blood and ceasing the first, the second went Gary’s way but then Di fought back to take the third and the fourth, finishing the match 1-3, to Gary’s chagrin.

With the meet already going Carlisle C’s way tonight Christian Hoyle, playing on court one with Simon Mattock was after team consolation point‘s. Warming up court one and convincingly taking the first set Chris moves ahead 1-0. The second and third were much to the same rhythm Chris seemingly easily pushing aside Simon taking the match 3-0.

A good warm up for next weeks match as Kendal C take on Kendal B (fresh from a bye) in what will be the most eagerly anticipated grudge match of the year, to once and for all duke it out and finally decide which team reign’s supreme!! Everyone welcome to come down and watch- there might be blood!!.
