Handicap competition finals night

A good tournament with some excellent games culminated in a excellent final as Dave Barber beat Graeme Braithwaite 15/-2. Throughout a 40 minute game Dave played his characteristic game of tight squash and immaculate length, running and retrieving seemingly effortlessly. Great squash from Graeme saw him make a very competitive match, but a 10 point difference in their handicaps was not enough. The match was played in great spirit with both players treating their opponent and the marker with respect amidst some entertaining banter!

Well played both. The appetiser was a shorter affair as Guy Fenech could not quite capitalise on his scratch start against 2014 team player of the year Dave Archer who was on -33. Being forced to consume a four course lunch beforehand added to Dave’s handicap but he run out a worthy winner 15/12.

Longstanding club member Tony Dixon, a fomer team player and Club Chairman made a welcome return to the spectators gallery and presented trophies to the two winners and two runners up.

Chris Vance excelled by serving a chil supper to everyone present, washed down with plentiful beer. More entertainment for the spectators came in the form of a prize draw which saw Brewery cinema tickets,  a meal for two at The Castle, a voucher for Askews Cycle shop and various bottles of alcohol distributed.
