Timed handicap tournament

A hectic timed handicap tournament at Kendal Squash Club saw the closely contested final go all the way to a ‘sudden death’ last point. Christian Hoyle clawed back 25 points against Tom Costelloe to squeak home by a single point. In the plate final, Alex Greenwood cantered home by eight points.

Great job by Chris Vance who organised the event, the catering and the prize.

Team squash

Last week’s Cumbria league squash saw Whitehaven A come to Kendal to play the senior side, while the respective B teams clashed in Whitehaven.
In the premier match Kendal’s Steve Edmondson and Graeme Braithwaite both won in four games. The other three players – Ben Welton, Alistair Pease and Dan Nevison did not fare so well, all losing in straight sets, giving Whitehaven the win 3-2 which sees them maintain third place in the league. Kendal A lurk near the bottom, with only Dalton A below them.

It was a different story on the other side of the county as Kendal B gained their best win of the season beating at Whitehaven 4-1. The night saw good wins for Ben Leil, Dave Archer, Ben Cook and Shaffin Jaffar. Steve Couper was unlucky to lose out in a match that was nip and tuck, giving Whitehaven their only win of the evening.

Kendal C thrashed visitors Dalton B, taking all five matches. Gary Major, Russ Lilliebridge and Ian Garnett all won in straight games, while Christian Hoyle and Joel Howse each won in four.
