We hope all Squash Club members are keeping well and have not been too badly affected by the COVID situation in the last 18 months. For much of this time the Squash Club has been closed or operating under restrictions. Currently the easing of restrictions is underway, however, the following remain in place:
- Enhanced cleaning regime
- Court booking times have been changed to allow 15 minutes ‘breathing space’ between games
- Players asked to arrive and depart in a timely manner – no spectating or socialising in the building
- Changing rooms and showers are now open but players asked to restrict their use so that no more than two people in the room.
- Members reminded to use disinfectant sprays and wipes to clean surfaces such as door handles etc after use
All members had their membership suspended during the shut-down, and now have the option to request their membership be reinstated. Members are slowly returning to the club, League squash is resuming this month, but currently tournaments and club night are still on hold.
England Squash recently published findings from surveys of clubs and coaches they carried out at various stages of the return to play since April. They report that the majority of players (74%) who replied say they are raring to play again; others are cautious and prefer to wait. Male “committed” players (i.e. those playing regularly) have been most likely to return (about 70%); occasional players, ladies and juniors are more likely to stay away.
The Kendal committee is actively considering the appropriate safe way to further ease restrictions in a way that protects the club and members. A questionnaire has been emailed to all members seeking their views on this.
